Boz the Bee (2023)

Young Boz the Bee never thinks twice about his different way of buzzing until Boris admonishes him. Embarrassed, Boz tries to hide his true self until he sees Bella confidently expressing her uniqueness. Together, they gather the courage to advocate for their differences at the Bee Bop Conference where, to their surprise, other bees open up about their differences, too!

In a story told with a delightful alliterative cadence, kids will learn that it’s okay to be who they were created to be. Acceptance and inclusion are the keys to allowing our differences to produce harmony instead of discord – we can only blend when we feel free to BEE ourselves!

This book was a hit with my two kiddos, ages 3 and 8! It quickly became one of our many important tools to teach our children all about equality, diversity and being kind to everyone. 10/10!

I recommend this book to anyone with kids."

Praise & Reviews

This book is great and I’m really glad we bought it. I’ve been looking for fun books for my young grandchild that teach great lessons and life-skills. I want him to be immersed in an environment at home that will best prepare kids to be happy, healthy, and confident adults some day so I thought that this would be a great addition to our library and it is!"

I appreciate stories like this that show you how bee-you-tiful your uniqueness is. The illustrations are adorable. I follow both the author and the illustrator - it's lovely to see the colla-bee-ration."

About Stephanie

I started writing fiction in second grade and have two wonderful teachers, Mrs. Emie Andrews and Mrs. Nancy Dunning to thank for it. We created our own binding out of wallpaper and yarn and my first masterpiece, "Tanya the Brat" was born.

(Firm apologies to my cousin Tanya who didn't deserve such treatment, I was just jealous of her 2-year-old cuteness.)

As years raced by, I received my degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and Arts. I dabbled in horror fiction, short stories, poetry, creative non-fiction, and spirituality... but mowing over a bumblebee really changed my life.

(The bee was fine, I promise.)

I gave him a story, a name, a bully, and some allies and Boz the Bee came alive through the illustrations of my dear friend Rachel Barton.

Stay tuned for more collaborations with Rachel on my 'animals-with-issues' series and some other exciting surprises this year!
